Vansh’s Story: Building Confident Environmental Activism
Vansh’s Story: Vansh’s father runs a shop and his mother looks after the home in the village of Sherki, BandalGhati. Vansh was very shy, would not speak at all and would even struggle to introduce himself. An MCF helper visited his home and spoke to his mother, involving her in the plans to help Vansh gain his own sense of self, speak with confidence and feel good about himself. She did this by explaining the community and trust building activities that take place in the Children’s Groups (Bal Sangathan), and the friendships that are encouraged among the children, which Vansh would begin to learn from. His mother also motivated Vansh to speak and share his thoughts at home. With help and encouragement, Vansh has gained confidence. He has made more friends with his fellow Bal Sangathan members. He is confident when he introduces himself, and something else changed too! His mother said that Vansh used to throw rubbish around but once he learnt about sanitation and hygiene he has been very particular that he conscientiously uses dustbins for trash, and he makes sure that everyone in the family does the same! The environmental awareness lessons that Vansh learned from his peers has given Vansh a purpose and meaning in his life, and has brought out the enthusiastic learner that Vansh actually is!
